Welcoming 2022
It would be great at the beginning of 2022 to be showcasing the opening scenes at Chuzu community hall but we’re not quite there yet. However, the recent pictures sent at the end of December show the roof being completed and electrical trunking for the lighting being installed. This will be the first dwelling in Chuzu to have its own electrical light source creating circumstances that extend the day for things such as adult reading classes and after school programs. This is a huge development, one unimaginable 2 years ago, for such a rural and distressed community. Meanwhile, the local team of board members and staff are preparing for an opening on January 22nd. This will provide an opportunity to thank vendors and local authorities for their assistance in bring our first project to fruition and at the same time, showcasing the work of Compact to other charitable & government personal. FYI: The rains are very late which allowed thatching to be completed unhindered, but now, 5 weeks on, we worry that a drought situation is pending.
Overcoming poverty is not a gesture of charity. It is an act of justice. It is the protection of a fundamental human right , the right to dignity and a decent life. While poverty persists, there is no true freedom.”
