Nutrition Training
July 10th—18th 2023 saw board member Patrick Singoyi accompany Field Manager Luke Beka to Ndalama for a weeklong nutrition training program. Malawi is experiencing the triple burden of malnutrition with undernutrition, overnutrition and micronutrient deficiency problems. The main issue is poor diet in which there is a limited consumption of nutrient rich foods such as legumes, fruits, vegetables, and animal sourced foods. Most of the population live below the poverty line which results in the consumption of cheaper, less nutritious meals. It is estimated that 94% of the population are not able to afford a healthy diet (The ROCKEFELLER FOUNDATION, BCG, WFP, 2021).
Apart from promoting permaculture and orchards in the community, Compact provides training on food processing and cooking demonstrations. The training is provided to a committee who spread the knowledge to other community members. This training is intended to improve the quality of the meals preventing malnutrition. In addition, it also assists in terms of food utilization and helps to prevent food wastage. The demonstrations were well attended as always, and the community has shown great commitment throughout this project. Our thanks goes out to all those on the ground leading this good work.
Go, eat your bread in happiness, and drink your wine with a cheerful heart, for God has already approved your work.

Drilling in Ndalama
Chisomo Mainje, Compact’s Executive Director, reported that on July 25th, drilling started at Ndalama Village. We can give thanks that water was found the next day which makes way for pump testing the first week in August. There is still plenty of work to do with piping, solar panels, storage tanks and a supporting framework. This system will add greatly to easing the burden of daily life and sustaining the agricultural development this community has made these past 5 months.
Your ongoing support cannot be underestimated, and every contribution, be it the sharing of these letters, the website details, finances, or prayer are greatly appreciated.
