Ndalama Village

Having our first project in Chuzu up and running, Luke Beka will continue making monthly visits to monitor the progress in managing their new environment. Meanwhile, Chisomo Mainje, our Executive Director, has been making inroads for our next project at Ndalama Village in the district of Nkhotakota. This is a 5-hour drive from the capital Lilongwe and required a two night stay to carry out the initial inquiries. These included meetings with the District Executive Committee, Director of Planning, Group Village Head, and a presentation to the villagers themselves. A site survey by the drilling company and the builder were also carried out to establish the suitability of the site on offer. Interestingly the Group Village Head thought the site not central enough but when realizing the land had been donated, he was not able to offer us an alternative. Following a Board & Management meeting this month we will make our final decision on how best to move forward.

Seize the Moment

We have a wonderful story to report regarding fundraising. One of our keen supporters in Crowborough, UK, heard that some friends were downsizing and had called their sons to dispose of furniture. She asked for a 24-hour delay, photographed & posted the item on “Market Place” and promptly deposited  $235 on their behalf via pay-pal on the Compact site. It’s not everyone’s cuppa tea but maybe you could do something similar with all those unused items around the house. There’s even time for a garage sale if you’re so inclined!
