Permaculture Partnership

Compact is pleased to be working with EC Permaculture Consultancy who provide design, training & advice for those looking to embrace and develop permaculture methodology. One of the founding members, Eston Mgala, is a practitioner with more than 16 years’ experience and has worked with many organizations including Kusamala Institute of Agriculture and Ecology of which he was co-founder and International Conservation and Clean Up Management (ICCM). He currently holds the position of Country Director for World of Difference. With poor literacy in most rural areas training is driven by a hands-on approach from participants. An understanding of global, local, and community challenges are dealt with, leaving villages with skills to be used in their day to day lives. Permaculture is a vital part of creating healthy communities.

What is Permaculture?

Permaculture integrates land, resources, people and environment through naturally beneficial synergies – imitating the no waste, closed loop systems. It uses holistic solutions that are applicable in both a rural and urban context. The toolbox includes agriculture, water harvesting and hydrology, energy, natural buildings, forestry, waste management, animal systems, aquaculture, economics and community development.

Compact will be engaging the services of the University Canada West, located in downtown Vancouver, to undertake research and to develop a digital marketing strategy. Because Compact delivers on many levels (community space, water management, sanitation, energy, nutrition and environmental responsibility) it can be challenging to identify and connect with specific donors. The work will be completed over an 8-week period by undergraduates as part of their final degree.
