Meeting Planned with District Commissioner

The monthly Board Management meeting took place on Saturday December 12 th at Capital Hotel, Lilongwe. We were pleased to welcome Chisomo Faith Kuyenda as our latest board member who, with her extensive experience in finance, has taken on the role of Treasurer. Meetings are now scheduled in early January 2021 for Cynthia to meet with the District Commissioner in Dowa. The DC plays a key role in all provincial social economic development and social stability. Our working with the DC ensures the impact of Compact is recorded as part of Malawi’s on going development of rural areas.

Heavy Rains in Malawi

Malawi is situated in the tropics and receives good rainfall. It has a Dry season from May to the end of October, and a Wet season from November to April. In the Wet season many roads deteriorate and a 4x4 is essential which Compact does not have at this point. With poor infrastructure and ongoing deforestation, flooding is frequent and soul destroying. Compacts design aims to reverse some of this damage.

World Soil Day

December 5th was world Soil Day but I’m sure it was missed by most of the world! Did you know a single teaspoonful of healthy soil contains more micro-organisms than there are people on earth? Permaculture works to creates healthy soil.
