Compact’s Mindset & New Board Member
Prevention and Cure
The Big Issue is a UK magazine created 30 years ago to highlight and help homeless people turn their lives around. But it’s founder Sir John Bird is frustrated that the underlying causes of homelessness have not been addressed. He says, like other social problems, it is always treated as an emergency. About 80% of the money that goes into social crises around the world goes into emergencies. Very little gets invested in prevention, and very little goes into the cure.
Many people feel it a human responsibility to respond to emergencies but like Sir John, Compact looks to bye pass short term fixes and deal with prevention and cure. Drilling a well is important but educating & training villages on water management that allows them to work and cultivate their own land will provide generational change.
New Board Member
We are very pleased to welcome Jennifer Jones from Ancaster, Ontario, to our growing team of board members. Before our invitation arrived, she said; “It’s been a desire of mine for a while now to get involved in an endeavor that is meaningful and I have been thinking and praying on this a lot over the last number of months, looking for the right opportunity”. Jennifer is a CPA, which will be most welcome, with a background in Audit, Assurance and financial reporting, working for PricewaterhouseCoopers both in Canada and the UK.
We look forward to working with Jennifer in this exciting endeavor.
