Malawi Info Evening

Ndalama Village, Malawi, Africa

November 18th saw Compact hold its first in person event in Vancouver, BC, Canada. The program was designed to showcase the environment in which Compact carries out its work in Malawi, the poorest non conflict country in Africa. The program was broken down into modules that included a short documentary by Shawn Dhanda on the culture, economics, and endemic issues that these people face. A personal testimony from guest speaker Barrett Sprowson, an overview of the "Why & Work” of Compact by Kevin Jones and finally, Zeb Williamson gave an insight of the global impact of caring for those halfway around the world. The overall aim was to provide a depth of understanding, create leverage through shared communication and hopefully develop donor support. Thanks to the team who generously provided a great meal of pulled pork, chicken curry and a vegetarian pasta dish. It was hard to get people to go home!

“It’s a process of micro movements that continually works towards fulfilling the vision”

Guest Speaker

Barrett Sprowson of Intracorp, Vancouver

We were privileged to have Barrett Sprowson from Intracorp, come and share his personal story of life in Malawi. A 7th generation African born in Zimbabwe, Barrett grew up in Malawi where his parents still live today in the capital Lilongwe. He brought a great account of his parents’ endeavor to build a landscape garden and consultancy business that despite the often-cruel circumstances, still thrives today. He also raised the serious issues of “Cashgate”, IMF pull out, lack of foreign exchange and the growing corruption. His story perfectly complimented the intentions of the evening, and his presence was much appreciated.
