It’s Bananas
Welcome to 2025, another year has arrived, and we truly wish you all the best with your good intentions and the great goals you have in mind. Each year is filled with choices that affect us, our families, friends, neighbours and even strangers. Your choice to support Compact has yielded incredible benefits to those who have been at a disadvantage for so long and now are experiencing a monumental shift in their environment and living standards. Thank you.
What’s with the bananas you might ask! The bunch of bananas on the left will be sold by Michael for $8 USD in his local market in Nkhotakota District, Malawi. The one on the right forms a piece of art by Maurizio Cattelan called “Duct-Taped Banana” and was sold at Sotheby’s in New York last November to a Chinese Cryptocurrency entrepreneur for $6.2 million USD. The banana was bought that morning for 35 cents. There is something wrong with these colliding situations as there is with so many things in our world, but we can assure you that your support is doing something right, beautiful, and very significant. We always have in mind to wisely use your donations by ensuring they are allocated directly to the intended causes, maximizing their impact on the communities we serve. If you want to go bananas with your disposable income, please contact us first and we can help you with that!
The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it;” Psalm 24:1
December Update
December concluded many months of training under the supervision of Dominic Kalande, our lead Farmer. This included types and applications of compost, the basics, pillars and importance of conservation agriculture, soil and water conservation and agroforestry practices. At the time of writing, the bank accounts for the Water Users Association (WUA) will be set up and weather depending, the distribution and planting of trees will be in full swing. May their roots go deep.
This is a critical time of year during which heavy rains can ruin crops or desimate landscapes. Cyclone Chido has devastated Mayotte and continued its path to Mozambique which surrounds southern Malawi. This urgency means your support is never taken for granted.
